The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is donating 50 tons of dates to the Ghanaian Muslim community, this Ramadan.
The announcement was made by the Saudi Ambassador to Ghana, Meshal Hamdan Al-Rogi, in his Ramadan speech to Muslims in the country,
According to him, this is their way of extending help to people whose lives have been affected by the coronavirus outbreak, which in turn, is taking a toll on their way of life during the month of Ramadan.
“I understand what you feel for not being able to go the Mosque in this holy month of fasting, not having your usual Iftar with friends and neighbours, but we need to adjust ourselves, as Ramadan itself teaches us how to adjust our routine lifestyle,” he said.
The donation of dates he revealed, would be a yearly thing from this Ramadan forth.
Aside from the dates, the Saudi Kingdom is also donating $500 million to the World Health Organisation to help in its global fight against the Covid-19 Pandemic.
“Brothers and Sisters let us all remember that adhering to the personal protective directives from the covid-19 is not just obedience to our leaders but also to Almighty Allah and to the holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him),” he said.
He urged Muslims to stay safe by observing social distancing protocols, using face masks, staying home when necessary and making supplications as a contribution to the global efforts toward fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.
