The Minority in Parliament has rebuked the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, for not releasing monies allocated to the Housing Ministry in the 2020 Budget for the desilting of drains
Samson Ahi, a former Deputy Housing Minister, stated that the situation will endanger the lives of the citizenry as the annual rainy season fast approaches.
“From the checks I have made at the Ministry of Works and Housing, even a commencement certificate has not been released let alone processing a contract to be awarded so that choked gutters can be desilted,” the Bodi Parliamentarian lamented.

He called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to ensure that the needed action is taken to save the situation
“I want to use this medium to appeal to the President to personally intervene so that they can start awarding contracts for the choked gutters to be de-silted otherwise, when the rains set in, all of us will be in trouble,” he said.
Each year, there are reported cases of heavy flooding due to overflowing choked gutters across the country, especially in the Greater Accra Region.
