Tension is brewing in Asawase in Kumasi ahead of voters' registration exercise, as Member of Parliament for the area alleges a grand scheme to bus non-residents into the constituency to register.
Muntaka Mubarak says he is reliably informed that his opponents are devising dubious means to defile the exercise which begins tomorrow.
Mr Mubarak made these comments when he addressed a press conference in Kumasi June 29.
“We are aware that some people will be mobilised from different constituencies to register their names at Asawase. Our message is clear if you are coming; just bid your families farewell because we will guard the registration exercise with our lives,” the MP said.
He also accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of creating what he describes as ambiguous polling stations on the periphery of the constituency to promote the infiltration agenda.
“The Electoral Commission has created ambiguous 8 polling stations” Alhaji Muntaka alleges that “on the broader lines of the constituency the EC has schemed this mechanism just to ensure foreigners are bused to infiltrate the process.”
He cautioned that “we will not relent but ensure the right thing is done”
The Asawase MP reiterated that the voter registration exercise will be vigilantly guarded to ensure only residents of Asawase are enrolled.
