Legal issues and grievances at the Kumasi Technical University are receiving attention as the institution inaugurates its Appeals Board.
The five-member board will ensure peace prevails on campus for smooth academic activities.
The board is chaired by law lecturer at the faculty of Law, Kwame Nkrumah University of science and Technology, Chris Kwakye.
Kumasi Methodist Bishop, Rt. Rev Christopher Nyarko Andam, Lawyer Samuel Aryeh of the S.K Boafo and Associates are members.
Others are Nana Yaa Asante Nnuro, a lawyer at the Lands commission and Dr. Helena Hassan, a retired librarian.
The board, the first of its kind at the university is mandated to assess all unresolved issues at student and faculty levels and advise accordingly.
“What we are going to do is basically to be furnished with the records by what has been decided by the body below. We’ll look at it and ascertain whether the decision given by the body is in consonance with the university’s status and prevailing legal regime of Ghana.
“If it’s not in tandem with the statues, we, us a board after conferring, will then substitute the decision that has been given,” Chris said
Aggrieved persons will however not be barred from seeking redress at the law courts if they aren’t satisfied with board’s verdict.
“We cannot shut anybody out. That will be gaggling,” he assured.
Board Chairman, lawyer Chris is optimistic his independent team will work hard to prevent legal issues in the university from reaching the courts.
Chairman of the University Council, Prof Ben Baffoe-Bonnie who inaugurated the board is hopeful they will work diligently to ensure efficient discharge of their duties.
