The Queen Mother of Kusaug Traditional Area, Poanaba Alaas Buudi I has stated the challenges faced by women in the community can be resolved by developing their business ideas through education and financial support.
Poanaba Alaas Buudi I stated that the major challenge faced by women in the traditional area is poverty.
Speaking to JoyNews, she said in order to alleviate poverty in the community, women must be educated on how to run their businesses.
"We hope we get Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to come and engage us in dialogues and educate the women on how to run their businesses.
"They could host durbars to facilitate their works in order to reach a large number of women in the community," she said.
She stated that the total welfare of women in the community is not the responsibility of the husband as practiced in some localities.
"In marriages here, a woman is not fully taken care of by the husband. Women farm to take care of their kids and the household and as a result are highly challenged," she added.
The Queen Mother appealed for support for women to help alleviate them from poverty.
She admonished that loans be granted to women to undertake agricultural productions as a means to alleviate poverty faced in the community.
Expectations are high among Zebilla, Bawku and Garu constituents as they prepare to engage their respective parliamentary candidates at the Bawku Community Centre on issues largely bordering on poor roads, lack of jobs for the youth and various issues affecting their economic welfare.
The objective is to ensure that promises being made by the political parties are aligned with the real needs of the voter and subsequently influence policy direction of state actors.
