AFC Leopards moved to appoint former Gor Mahia coach Zdravko Logarusic due to his past record as compared to other coaches who applied for the job, club secretary general George Aladwa says.
Logarusic, the 53 year old no nonsense Croat is expected to arrive in Nairobi on Monday and head straight to Mumias where he will link up with the team that has been camping at the Western Kenya town for the last week preparing for the start of the season.
Aladwa says Logarusic's record of instilling discipline within the playing unit and his performance with the teams he has handled was more attractive than former Eritrea national team coach Romanian Dorian who had been the front runner for the position previously held by Dutchman Pieter de Jongh.
"We looked at Logarusic's CV and we did not even think twice. He understands the Kenyan game having handled Gor Mahia from relegation zone to nearly winning the league title," observed Aladwa.
"When you look at other clubs he has managed too, you can see he always improves them from low levels to title chasers. We know he can lift Ingwe," added Aladwa. Logarusic will sign a one year contract and Aladwa says they have set condition for the coach to meet during his stay here.
"We understand he has high demands and we have told him what we expect of him. This contract is not all about money but performance," said Aladwa.
Logarusic came to Gor Mahia in 2012 and found the club battling relegation. He turned the side around taking them close to winning the title only losing it on the final day. However under him, Gor Mahia won the Top Eight and GOtv cup titles.
He parted ways with the K'Ogalo in June 2013 after the club failed to met his salary demands.
