Former Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Obed Yao Asamoah claims a portion of Professor Ahwoi’s book ‘Working with Rawlings’ created unfair impressions about the late former President.
According to him, the book portrayed Rawlings as being disloyal to the late Atta-Mills because he kept criticizing his governance. This he said was unfair.
However, he admitted that most of the account detailing the working experience with Rawlings in Ahwoi’s book was factual.
“I really think most of what he said in his book was true from my own assessment. I think it was unfair to create J.J as disloyal to Mills who he had promoted all along.”
In a well-detailed reply to Prof Ahwoi’s book by the late President Rawlings’ Office, he said he did not criticise Mr Mills on the basis of hatred as the ‘Working with Rawlings’ book had portrayed but with good intentions.
During a one-on-one interview on Joy News, Benjamin Akakpo, the former Attorney General under the Rawlings administration also refuted the assertion that Rawlings was responsible for Atta-Mills’ demise.
He said the blame came on the back of allegations that Rawlings refused to allow Atta-Mills to step down when he got sick.
Dr Obed Asamoah hinted that Rawlings was putting things in order to replace Mills with Kwamena Ahwoi.
“J.J was working on replacing Mills after he was informed that he was not well and had wanted to step down. The replacement he was thinking really was Ahwoi.”
