The National House of Chiefs has advised political parties and candidates dissatisfied with the verdict of the Electoral Commission in the just-ended general elections to address their concerns through legitimate means.
In a press release signed by its President, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, the House of Chiefs noted that Ghana's international recognition as a "beacon of democracy" has come about "because the electorates have always been satisfied with the outcome of the elections results or our elections have always been perfect, but rather the way we chose to settle election disputes".
“This did not come about because the electorates have always been satisfied with the outcome of the election results or our elections have always been perfect, but rather the way we chose to settle election disputes,” the statement reads.
In view of the aforestated, the National House of Chiefs was concerned with the effect of the "numerous demonstrations by a section of member and supporters of some political organizations about the results so declared by the Electoral Commission".
The House of Chiefs believes that if this goes unchecked, it "is likely to erode the gains made over the years".
It has therefore advised all dissatisfied candidates or political parties to endeavour to seek redress by using the laid down processes and procedure for the settlement of electoral disputes.
“It is pertinent to state that there are no winners and losers in this election, it is Ghana that has won and everyone should be proud of it,” it added.
The House further congratulated Ghanaians "for coming out massively to exercise their franchise during the December 7 Presidential and Parliamentary elections".
