Former aide to the late Jerry John Rawlings says the former President behind closed doors portrayed a gentle personality not known to many.
In a eulogy to his former boss, Victor Smith said even though the former president was perceived as strong and courageous, he had a soft spot for humanity.
Recounting one of the emotional breakdowns he witnessed, he said, “I saw him weep like a baby because someone called him to tell him about a very close friend that I believe he felt he had failed to help in life. That was the first time I had seen him like that because I thought he was too courageous to even shed a tear for anything.”
In an interview with Joy News, Mr Smith indicated that Rawlings, while he was alive, showed so much love for humanity.
According to him, the late statesman was committed to social justice and desired to see people prosper and live decent lives.
However, he admitted that the founder of the National Democratic Congress was not perfect and therefore made certain decisions that may have negatively affected some Ghanaians.
"He is not perfect, he is only human. He may have committed errors in his life, he may have hurt people in trying to as it were stir the revolution."
His comment comes after the demise of Jerry John Rawlings who passed on at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra on November 12, 2020, after a short illness.
The former president was buried at the Burma Camp Military Cemetery on January 28, following a four-day event which began on the January 24.
