The Minister-designate for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mavis Hawa Koomson has pledged commitment to ensuring the fair distribution of premix fuel if given the nod.
There has been news about strange shortages of the product living many Ghanaian fisher-folks partially employed while the artificial shortages spawned a black market for the product - a situation that has over the years been a subject of controversy among fishing communities.
But taking her turn before the ministerial vetting committee of parliament, Mrs. Hawa Koomson said she will adopt an alternative and permanent solution to the problem.
“When I get the nod, I will make sure that this premix will be available for all fishermen and the fishery sites to do their fishing and I will also introduce some other measures that will help to mitigate the shortage of premix fuel.” She said.
Progress made
Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in July 2019 announced that the government has begun processes to digitize the distribution of both premix fuel and fertilizer to address the confusion that characterizes the distribution process.
Speaking at the 2019 Ghana Petroleum Conference, Dr. Bawumia said the trend will end soon.
