Early this year, the Ghana Police Service and Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) received a number of complaints on physical, emotional and psychological abuse in marriages, some resulting in untimely deaths.
This triggered many to share their stories on how growing up in such families has affected their emotional growth and stability, and effectively their relationships.
According to the Ghana Domestic Violence Act, ACT 732, "a person in a domestic relation who engages in domestic violence commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of not more than five hundred penalty units or to a term of imprisonment of not more than two years or to both".
Today on The Law, host, Samson Lardy Anyenini interacted with his panellists; Executive Member of FIDA Ghana, Irene Aborchie Nyame and Nana Yaa Ntiwaa Asare, a member of Coalition for survivors of Domestic Violence on spousal abuse in Ghana, the legal framework and the way forward out of this menace.
