Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Development, Mavis Hawa Koomson has appealled to persons who might have consumed the suspected poisoned fish which spilled on the Osu beach to report themselves for monitoring.
In what may be described as her first public response on the suspected poisoned fishes, Madam Koomson said three state institutions, the FDA, Fisheries Commission and the EPA have been tasked to unravel the cause of the spill.
“…as we speak they have taken samples and are investigating. We are not out with any information for now, and so we wouldn’t want to say anything that is out of order. We want to wait for information before stating facts.”
At a local gathering in some of the coastal communities, she urged residents to report any adverse situation that could help in the investigation especially those who might have consumed the fish.
“I want to take this opportunity to plead with the community if anyone has taken some of the fish and has used it or consumed it, please own up so that we can monitor you if there are any problems we can quickly address it”
The Chief Executive Officer for FDA, Delese Mimi Darko says her outfit is working hard to come out with results speedily.
She urged many added that some fish lovers have been unsettled by the incident to the extent that they decided to avoid eating it until further notice.
Meanwhile, Chief Fisherman of Osu, Nii Djamlodja VI has committed to ensuring only quality fresh fish reaches the market.
