The Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator, DCOP Ayensu Opare Addo (retd), has recounted how he was harassed by some persons believed to be members of the Vigilante group affiliated to the New Patriotic Party (NPP)- Delta Force.
DCOP Opare Addo said members of the group, who are now part of the National Security apparatus, attempted to forcefully throw him out of his office on grounds that his appointment had been terminated.
According to him, this happened on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at about 5pm.
Narrating his ordeal, he said he was humiliated and assaulted by the group.
"They came and assaulted me, pointing AK 47 at me and the like, hitting me, even when I was going to urinate one of the boys followed me and said he was following me to the toilet, I said what do you mean?
“He said but you’re a man, I am also a man, I can look at it because you can also look at mine. I said why! Am I a baby? So I am not going to look at this without taking any action,” he said.
He further noted that he was handcuffed after he tried to resist arrest.
The retired Police officer was however not surprised at their conduct because according to him, he had been a thorn in their flesh in their quest to engage in illegal mining known in local parlance as galamsey within the region.
“These Delta Force guys and their bosses have been wanting to do galamsey and I have always resisted it so they warned me but I’m not intimidated,” he stated.
Meanwhile, DCOP Opare Addo has vowed to take appropriate action against his assailants.
