The maiden edition of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) Absa Ashanti Regional Championship has come to a successful end with contestants of Prempeh College being the last man standing.
The Amanfuor boys on Monday afternoon clashed with its contenders; Opoku Ware School and Kumasi Sec. Tech to decide who earns the bragging rights as Ashanti Region’s champions.

Indeed, it was a clash of the titans as supporters of the various schools saw four-time NSMQ champion, Prempeh College, two-time winners, Opoku Ware and underdogs Kumasi Sec. Tech display great sportsmanship today.
Prempeh College was not reluctant to lead the pack in the first round. The school secured 27 points with Opoku Ware close by with 17 points. Kumasi Sec. Tech was on the tail of the Akatakyie boys to take the second position.
In the subsequent round, a three-point margin separated daring Prempeh College from its arch-rivals, Opoku Ware. Unfortunately, Kumasi Sec. Tech could not stay afloat as the tides of the Speed Race brought its ship crushing.
Prempeh College in Round Three decided to separate itself from the boys by securing 46 points. Both Opoku Ware and the underdogs from Kumasi Sec Tech landed with 37 points and 27 points respectively.
The adage, never say die until the bones are rotten, known to Accra Hearts of Oak could not apply to the Akatakyie boys from Opoku Ware. They simply had to wave a white flag as their efforts could not catapult them to the lead position.
