General Secretary of opposition National Democratic Congress’ (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has, urged the general public, including NDC faithful to join the party’s Youth Wing on the streets of Accra, tomorrow, Tuesday, July 6.
The demonstration by the youth wing of the party, dubbed, “A March for Justice” is to demand accountability as well as a redress of the country's security challenges, from the government.
The protest will commence at 6am from the Accra Mall, thence to the Jubilee House to present a petition to President Akufo-Addo. The Inspector-General of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh and Speaker Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin will be presented with the same petition at the Police Headquarters and Parliament House respectively.
A press statement issued in Accra on Sunday, signed by Johnson Asiedu Nketia said, "the protest march will therefore remind President Akufo-Addo of his responsibilities towards the people of Ghana especially in the area of public safety and security. It will seek to draw the attention of the government to the growing loss of public confidence in the hierarchy of some security agencies."
The Ghana Police has disclosed that the protesting NDC group will be protected.
According to the party, all Covid-19 safety protocols will be adhered to strictly, during the protest.
Meanwhile, the NDC has condemned the attack on the protesting Ejura youth and some residents of Wa in the Upper West Region, by Military personnel as well as government's inability to bring the perpetrators of the violence that erupted in Techiman South during the 2020 general elections, to book.
"The NDC is alarmed and appalled by the increased-spate of state-sponsored brutalities, killings and harassment against innocent citizens being supervised by President Akufo-Addo, as was witnessed during the Ayawaso West Wuogon bye-election and the December 7 polls in Techiman South and other areas," its press statement added.
The press statement also condemned, "the recent murder of Ibrahim Mohammed, aka Kaaka, by hoodlums belonging to the NPP and state-sponsored killings and maiming of some innocent youth of Ejura."
So far, two deaths have been recorded in the Ejura clash with four others receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
