Leader of the Economic Fighters League, a youth-based activist group, Ernesto Yeboah, has called on Ghanaians to resist political leaders' attempts to steal their future.
According to Ernesto Yeboah, the predatory tactics employed by Ghana’s political leaders are meant to cripple the country's youth and kill their dreams.
“They are stealing our future, for a people who have suffered slavery and colonialism. In fact, these are not leaders; they are enemies. Therefore, we should resist these arrangements to cripple us.
"The current system we are running breeds charlatans. So let’s change the system and see if anything better will come out of it,” he said.
He was speaking on Accra-based Citi FM’s Eyewitness News in reaction to excerpts of President Akufo-Addo’s speech during the 29th-anniversary celebration of the New Patriotic Party, August 5.
The President had stated that “Today, the challenges that confront our country, the difficulties that we have been plunged into by the Covid-19 pandemic are going to give us the opportunity to grow stronger and stronger, and that strengthening of our party and its organs means one thing, I am very confident of it that on December 7, 2024, the new NPP presidential candidate is going to win the election.”
However, according to Ernesto Yeboah, the President’s comments were rather obtuse as they didn’t mirror the plight of the youth in the country neither did they proffer solutions to the hardship in the country.
He said, “They are not thinking about us. Who is thinking about election 2024? We want jobs, bread, and many others. This is all they care about in these challenging times. Hearing these things make us angrier.”
Meanwhile, Ernesto Yeboah who is also a convener of the #FixTheCountry movement says it is time for a new constitution to replace the “undemocratic” 1992 constitution to reflect the aspiration of the younger generation.
He and other #FixTheCountry conveners are seeking one million signatures from Ghanaians in a petition to demand for a new constitution.
