A 13-year-old boy would have to undergo 10 surgeries after his legs were crushed by a speedy car.
Moses Addae is one of the children featured in the latest Joy News documentary titled Crushed Young.
The documentary tells the stories of children killed or maimed through road accidents.
Joy News’ Seth Kwame Boateng shares the story of Moses, who lost a leg and has already spent six months in hospital.
“On Friday, March 19, 2021, 13-year-old Moses stepped out to buy food at Trede junction and had since not returned home. Moses has been on admission at the trauma, an Orthopedics ward at the Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital for almost six months,” he narrated.
Moses Addae, after regaining consciousness at the hospital, said, “I asked my mother why am I in the hospital; I also asked my leg has been amputated she told me a vehicle run over my legs and crushed the bones.”
Following up on the scene at Trede in Kumasi, Joy News’ reporter, in an interaction with the Trede District MTTD boss, ACP Dorcas Mensah, said the investigation into the accident has slowed down.
“The driver was bailed, and he was asked to be reporting himself. So the prosecutor went with a surety to know where he was residing, and we went back to the hospital and took a statement from the victim since he is a minor; another statement was also taken from the mother.
“Since he is alive, he can tell us exactly what happened at the scene,” she stated.
“I don’t know whether the doctors will allow it, but so far as he is now going for another surgery, I don’t think it will be appropriate for us to move him from the hospital and send him to the scene, so we are waiting," ACP Dorcas Mensah added.
Moses has so far undergone eight surgeries and has two more to do.
