Health authorities in the Oti Region have revealed that twenty-five per cent of Covid-19 infected persons in the region, are health workers.
Speaking during the regional health half-year performance review, the Regional Health Director, Dr Osei Kuffour Afreh noted that the situation is worrying.
“The Region is going through a third wave of Covid-19 pandemic, since March, 2020, the region has recorded a cumulative of 771 cases of Covid with eight deaths.
“A total of 196 health staff have also been affected by Covid with no deaths, which we have been able to manage most of them,” he said.
Dr Afreh noted that the increasing incidence of the disease, coupled with the unavailability of funds for contact tracing and surveillance of positive cases, is a challenge in the region.
“The Funds are not adequate and we are working around the clock to make sure that at least, we get some funds.
“Recently, we even got some school outbreaks and it was very difficult for us to do contact tracing for them. So even though we are doing our best to control the pandemic, we think we will need some additional funds,” he told JoyNews.
Meanwhile, the Regional Minister, Joshua Makubu, on his part has urged health workers in the region to observe the very protocols they have instituted for the public, to ensure they stay safe to attend to the health needs of the people.
