The Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) and the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) have expressed worry about the growing spate of spiritualists’ activities on mainstream and social media.
The two religious Councils in a communique observed that the activities of the spiritualists are promoting “get-rich-quick” syndrome, particularly among the youth.
While acknowledging that the spiritualists include some pastors, the Councils worried that their activities are weakening the value of hard work and patience amongst the youth in the society.
“We, the Leaders of CCG and GPCC, believe that it is important for the Government and all citizens to appreciate the moral, psychological, social and economic havoc, which these spiritualists are causing our nation,” parts of the statement read.
The Councils, therefore, called on media regulators to take stringent steps to curb the publication of fraudulent information being disseminated by these supposed spiritualists.
They argued that the “evils” being propagated must be terminated before they run down the core fundamentals of Ghanaian society.
Citing Deuteronomy 8:18, the leaders called on Ghanaian citizens to appreciate the need for hard work, honesty, Christian values, integrity and the desire for genuine acquisition of wealth.
