Highlife musician, Kumi Guitar has revealed that his style of doing music is unique because he believes every Highlife song needs to tell a story rather than following the trends.
The ‘Betweener’ hitmaker explained that music lovers should understand that there ought to be a variety.
He said this uniqueness guides him from keeping to the trends as demanded by his followers because a highlife song needs to carry a message.
“I will take myself as an example, people keep telling me your lyrics are too many; why not do add stuff because that is what others are doing but it doesn’t move me," he explained.
He said this in a discussion with Jay Foley and Emefa Adeti on Joy Prime on Friday when the trio were probing the issue of depression in the entertainment industry.
According to him, some artists are depressed because of the demand from fans to follow trends to be relevant. But contrary to that, he believes artists should stick to creativity.
"I believe highlife song should tell a story; I am not moved by what people are saying about my lyrics because style and variety are needed to spice up the industry,” he added.
Expanciating on how to deal with depression, he told the hosts that artists need a strong management team that believes in the craft and is fully prepared in all angles to motivate the artiste regardless of the pressure within and outside the industry.
“A strong team will encourage you to continue with the music but if you lack such it is easy to fall short to depression”, he hinted.
