The newly sworn Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare has assured police officers of continuous support from the leadership of the Police Service as they discharge their duties to the State with integrity.
He made this promise to the police in his acceptance speech after he was sworn into office at the Jubilee House on Friday.
He also urged the officers to Service to work hand-in-hand with the leadership of the Police to attain a world-class institution.
“As the substantive IGP, I will continue to count on you to deliver our core mandate of protecting lives and property – remember, it is only through teamwork that we can succeed.”
We should always remember that we can only succeed if we have the support and help of the public and treat them with respect,” he added.
Dr Dampare also tasked the personnel’s of the Service to put in their best effort to “regain the trust, confidence and respect of the people we serve.”
“Let us, individually and collectively, avoid any act(s) that will bring the name of the service into disrepute; let us continue to work hard to regain the trust, confidence and respect of the people we serve; and let us make the Ghana Police Service a model for the rest of Africa and beyond,” he said.
Dr George Akuffo Dampare was sworn into office as the substantive Inspector General of Police on October 8, 2021 after he was appointed as acting IGP two months ago.
He becomes Ghana’s 23rd Police boss after the retirement of his predecessor, James Oppong-Boanuh.
The 51-year-old is the youngest IGP to hold the position in the Fourth Republic and the eighth youngest since the country gained independence.
