The World Luxury Awards has recognised Ghana’s Royal Senchi Hotel as the Best Luxury Architecture Design Hotel in Africa.
The four-star resort received the recognition at a recently held World Luxury Awards 2021 in Mauritius.
This year’s event was hosted by the Trou Aux Biches Beachcomber Golf Resort and Spa and had about 1,000 hotels from around the world nominated for the coveted awards.
A statement on the event said the World Luxury Awards recognised establishments for world-class service excellence.
The awards were presented on a country, regional, continent and global basis, with winners selected by public vote online.
Commenting on the awards, The head of sales and marketing of the hotel, Mr Emmanuel Mensah, said "the Royal Senchi was crafted in the moulds of indigenous ingenuity both in architecture and services".
He opined that it was more a win for Ghana than it was for the hotel, explaining that the recognition only but reiterated the value of handed-down premodern technology.
"We made effective and creative use of the everyday natural resources endowed us," he said.
He added that most of the materials used in the edifice were either sourced locally or from sister African countries.
"Some of the logs used for the structure came from upstream the River Volta, and so are many other materials"
Mr Mensah said there was a lot more indigenous masterpieces to celebrate and show to the world than was being showcased.
For his part, the General manager of the hotel, Gerard Schraven said "the picturesque layout of the hotel structure underpinned our belief in originality.
"The flexuous form of the structure was designed so as to afford guests a view of the lake from their rooms," he added.
Reacting to recognition received by the hotel, Mr Ikechi Uko, a tourism development consultant said the award was well deserved.
"My first thought of Royal Senchi was of a deliberately designed place to excite your finer senses. old African yet modern, rural yet cosmopolitan, earthy but arty. A full blend of culturally relevant hospitality Architecture that welcomes you to its Comfort," he asserted.
Chief Operations Officer of Enterprise Group Limited, Nigel Nunoo who also remarked on the feat said: "The designers [of the hotel structure] thought about every little detail, from making sure that even in a rainstorm, guests can navigate the property without being impacted"
