Security analyst, Dr Ishmael Norman has urged the public to be limited their exuberant over the new Inspector-General of Police, George Akuffo Dampare although he is setting a good standard.
This, according to him, is due to the fact that the IGP is human and as such, can potentially make mistakes along the line.
His comment come after the recent spotting of the IGP's car following traffic regulation at Aviation Social Centre which left many surprised.
There is also the praise sung over the solving of some landmark kidnapping cases and swift arrest of perpetrators of some public interest crimes, among others.
Speaking in an interview on PM Express on Tuesday, Dr Norman explained that when much is expected from the IGP, it would be difficult to see past his error in order to forgive him.
He added that he is quite worried about the reaction from the public to the IGP should he make a mistake in enforcing the laws.
“He is human; he would make mistakes. When we expect so much, when we heighten our expectation to a point where when he makes mistakes, we damn don’t want to forgive him…The moment he makes a mistake, the noise will be heavier than it is now,” he told Evans Mensah.
On his part, another security analyst Col (Rtd.) Festus Aboagye stated that the IGP's following of traffic regulation just like every other citizen comes as a surprise to him.
According to him, the police boss is setting an example in his leadership and leaving to the expectation of who he is.
“The examples that we’ve seen in the past were not very encouraging and I’m afraid that if it had continued any longer, there may not have been any police service to talk about and indeed law and order and by extension security in this country would have been something to worry about,” he said.
He further encouraged the IGP, George Akuffo Dampare to keep up with the good works, adding that “I don’t think that he is got nothing to fear.”
“I don’t have any fears at all. He [IGP] should do the right thing and he would be commended for it,” he added.
The Vice President of the IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil stated that although mistakes are expected of the IGP, he has shown that he not afraid to seek help if he makes a mistake.
“He will make mistakes somewhere down the line. I do expect him to make mistakes, in fact one of the things about leadership is that if you are not making some mistakes that means that you are not pushing the edges far enough. So we are not saying that he should just go out there and make mistake,” he pointed.
