Scores of youth and traditional leaders of Nungua have besieged the premises of the newly built Orca Deco complex at No.9 Spintex Road this morning.
This is an attempt to halt the completion and subsequent opening of the complex after they say the owners of Orca Deco had no authority to put up the structure in that area.
They say the complex was put up in disrespect of the traditional authority of Nungua and in contempt of a High Court injunction barring the owners of Orca Deco from continuing with the construction.
According to elders of Nungua who spoke to JoyNews, the owners of Orca Deco had not sought the approval of the Nungua Traditional Council before commencing work.
They revealed that despite all attempts to get the owners to come before the Traditional Council to negotiate the land issue, all have come to nought.
The refusal of the owners of Orca Deco to negotiate with them had led the Nungua people to file an injunction against the construction of the complex.
Still, in apparent contravention of the court’s injunction, construction continued unabated, day and night and even on Sundays.
They say they shall not tolerate it any longer, and until the developers take proper steps, they shall continue to besiege the site and interrupt work there.
Nii Bortey Eteneshie, Awiliwulormor, said, “The court placed an injunction on them that they shouldn’t return to the land to work, but one Legon Commander has been conniving with the whites (owners of Orca Deco) to build the place unabated.
“They’ve been doing this day and night even despite the injunction. So we’re telling them that if they do not come and sit with our leaders to discuss the issue, what will happen after won’t be good.
“They’d have to kill all of us in Nungua because we will bring all of Nungua’s youths…if we’ve taken a case to court and the court has placed an injunction on the case, you have no right to put the law in your hands and do the [injuncted] thing.”
The owners of Orca Deco are yet to respond to the demands of the Nungua people.
When Joy News contacted the Orca Deco officials they declined to comment.
