The Senior Programmes Officer at the Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), has suggested that the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) who has been sighted in a viral video verbally assaulting a Police officer, should voluntarily resign from post or be suspended by the Local Government Ministry.
Speaking on the Super Morning Show on Friday, February 4, 2022, Nana Kwabena Aborampa Mensah emphasised that it is unfortunate for the MCE to have conducted himself in such a manner, especially when as the MCE, he heads the security apparatus in the district.
"Picking a quarrel with a Police officer at a checkpoint in front of everyone is not the best thing to do. It undermines the power of the officer.
"You don't know who you are dealing with, you will come begging tomorrow" - Abdul-Mumin Issah's [MCE, Sekondi-Takoradi]

"His [MCE] position is very important as far as security briefing to the National security architecture is concerned. He further explained that "in our [the country's] security arrangements, Ministers, District Chief Executives, Regional Minister, and Municipal Chief Executives all exercise a security function. So if he is an MCE, then he is the chairman of all security agencies in the Municipality and for that matter, he should know better," he said.
His comment was in reaction to the incident which occurred on Thursday, February 3, 2022. The Sekondi-Takoradi MCE, Abdul Mumin Issah, is said to have verbally assaulted a Police officer who was performing his lawful duty.
The MCE has been charged on three counts of Assault of a public officer, Offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace, and disturbing the peace in a public place contrary to Sections 205, 207, and 298, respectively, of the Criminal and Other Offences Act of 1960, Act 29.
The Command said he has also been charged for dangerous driving contrary to Section 1 of Act 683 of 2004 as amended by Act 761 of 2008.
He has further been dragged to court to respond to the charges leveled against him. Despite these measures to ensure he is brought to book for his actions, Nana Kwabena Aborampa Mensah is very appalled by the incident. He, thus, wants the MCE to step aside from post until investigations are fully completed.
"The man did not just demonstrate disrespect to the security agent, he went further to try snatching the gun from the Police officer. Anything could have happened if that attempt was successful.
"As it stands now, I'll advise that he stands aside as the MCE because security is the basis of everything in the district. He should be made to stand aside until a full investigation is completed into the case before he is reinstated or otherwise," he said.
Meanwhile, the Takoradi Circuit Court ‘A’ has granted Abdul Mumin Issah a ¢100,000 self-recognisance bail with three sureties. Hearing has been adjourned to March 17, 2022.
