Some concerned members of the National Inland Canoe Fishermen Council are calling on the National Fisheries Association of Ghana (NAFAG) to as a matter of urgency trigger a roadmap towards the election of new national executives to the council.
According to the disgruntled members, the tenure of office of the current executives has expired about a year ago making them incompetent to perform their duties.
They comprise fishermen who ply their trade on the Volta Lake.
Speaking to Accra-based Citi FM, the former National Secretary of NAFAG, Samson Mahu, said they are unable to access premix fuel and other input for fishing because the current leadership is unable to advocate for their interest.
The members say an election must be held in the coming days to constitute new leadership to advance the course of fishermen on the Volta Lake.
“The inland fishermen wish to inform the government and all stakeholders that, currently the National Inland Canoe Fishermen Council has no recognized executives” he added.
He further called on key stakeholders to endeavour to join their course to revamp the “once vibrant association”.
