The Greater Accra Regional Mayor, Elizabeth Sackey, has ordered that the Abuja Market in Adabraka be cordoned off for investigations into a fire outbreak that occurred on Monday, February 21.
Speaking to the media, she noted that any form of interference would hinder the work of the security agencies. Therefore, Madam Sackey, encouraged squatters to adhere to her directive.
“For now, investigation will be going on and I want to plead with all of you – We do not want to see any action or structure being put back here. No way. We are asking you in all humility. We don’t want to see any structure here until the investigations are done and we get the result. So, as at now, this is my instruction to all of you.”
“And I know being the good law-abiding citizens, you will adhere to this call and stay off for the time being," she said.
According to some squatters, the fire started around 2:00am. Items worth thousands of Ghana Cedis were destroyed.
The Electricity Company of Ghana, Ghana Water Company and the Ghana National Fire Service have been on the ground to assess the extent of damage caused by the fire.

Meanwhile, Municipal Chief Executive for Korley Klottey, Nii Adjei Tawiah, has urged the affected individuals to comply with the directive.
However, some squatters have disagreed with this directive and pleaded with government to introduce feasible initiatives.
According to them, they have been at the market since the Vienna City fire outbreak at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle on June 3, 2015.
