Gospel Musician, Celestine Donkor, says the VGMA board lacks gospel music-inclined members.
In an interview with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz, the award winning singer mentioned that, even though her journey with the award scheme has been good, her observations prove that gospel music does not get as much attention as other types of music.
“Majority of the people on the VGMA are not gospel followers. I feel because we don’t have more gospel people who are well informed and updated about issues in the gospel industry, there are some short coming in that direction.”
According to her, individuals on the board should be well informed about the gospel music space to be able to run the award scheme fairly.
“If you have people who are taking decisions and are not really well-informed about issues on the grounds, then we have a problem”
Celestine, on advocating for her colleagues in the gospel industry, feel that the VGMA board has done well over the years, but should endeavor to follow the gospel music closely.
“I think that if they follow gospel music, a lot of things will be different”
Celestine Donkor in 2020 won the award for Gospel song of the year and Female Vocalist of the Year.
This year, she has been nominated in the Best Gospel Song, Best Female Vocal Performance and Best Gospel Artiste of the Year, and is hopeful of winning all three categories.
