Although the group worked hard enough to merit an inclusion in the 2022 edition of the VGMAs, all efforts by the Board to get consent from the music duo for nomination proved futile.
Per the PRO of Charterhouse, Robert Klah, the group deserved to be part of the forthcoming edition of the prestigious award scheme. However, the group failed to give the Board the go-ahead to have their works nominated among the various categories, after they were reached out to.
Speaking on Daybreak Hitz, “R2bees did not file for nomination. Neither were we able to get consent from them to feature their works on the nomination list,” he told Andy Dosty on Hitz FM.
The group’s exclusion from the scheme this year contributed to the scrapping of the “Group of the Year” category by the Board, due to lack of competitiveness and number of active groups.
Be that as it may, that could not affect the twin music duo, Dopenation, from getting a nomination in other categories for this year’s edition.
The “Confam” hit-makers secured a spot in the ‘Best Hiplife Song’ category, for their smash-hit, “Zenabu”, featuring Dancegod Lloyd, Afrobeast and DWP Academy.
Another award-winning music group, Bethel Revival Choir, got nominated in the ‘Best Gospel Song’ set for their spirit-filled song, “Enyo”, featuring the VGMA Artiste of the Year (2017), Joe Mettle.
As revealed by Robert on Wednesday, songs and artistes are nominated through filing, consent, and collated data from designated research personnel.
Reasons for R2bees’ decision to be exempted from this year’s edition of the award ceremony, although not too surprising, it remains a mystery.
On 25th November 2021, the group released their long-awaited fourth studio album, Back 2 Basics, of which track 6, ”Eboso“ stands tall as the most popular single off the project.
The 14-track album features artistes like Stonebwoy, Gyakie, Mr Eazi, King Promise, Joeboy, Wizkid and Darkovibes.
