Actor Van Vicker has dismissed rumours that he has been involved in a motor vehicle accident, saying he is alive and well.
This comes after a video with the caption ‘we miss your smile’ was widely circulated on social media to suggest the actor has passed away in a deadly crash.
In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Van Vicker debunked the claims and described persons behind the act as insensitive.
He noted that this is not the first time such falsehood has been circulated about him.
"I would habitually overlook yet another 'death video' of me made by insensitive people; however, this particular one is making sensational circulation, hence my post.
"I am well by his grace. I have not been involved in any accident, neither am I dead. Perish the thought," he wrote in the post.
There have been a number of similar cases against celebrities and politicians in the country, with many calling for the prosecution and arrest of persons behind the acts.
According to Van Vicker, such fake news only get people who care for others worried and traumatised.
"There has to be a way to disallow such lunacies, faux news, sensationalism and or impassivity via social media.
"Millions of people around the globe experience some form of trauma whilst watching these videos," he stated.
Recently, actor and politician, John Dumelo, also fell victim to a death hoax.
In a video shared on YouTube, he revealed that he was informed about some rumours making the rounds claiming he had died during the weekend.
John Dumelo stated that the news was fake. He assured his fans and followers that he is not only alive but healthy.
The actor chastised individuals who spread the story, adding that circulating false rumours is not the right approach to get content for any platform.
