Broken down power plants are frustrating the ability of Ghana Gas company to supply 650megawatts worth of power; enough to kill off a debilitating power crisis.
CEO of the Ghana Gas Company Dr. George Sipa Yankey told Joy News that the company is capable of supplying 114million scf per day which translates into 650 megawatts but because the TICO and TACO plants are down, the gas idles under the bowels of the earth.
He fears that the clean processed gas may have to be flared while his workers look on helplessly as the economic game-changer burns away.
“We are unhappy because our partners along the supply chain have not been able to resolve operational challenges to enable Ghanaians to experience the full impact following the successful completion of Atuabo Gas”, an unhappy CEO said.
He is worried that after all the “toil and sweat” by the company and the increased condemnation from Ghanaians over the delay of the project, he is disappointed that the company’s production capacity is still yet to be fully utilized.

VRA’s power plants can presently take no more than 60million scf of gas per day leaving over 50million scf unused.
A gas-powered energy sector has been touted as the future resource for energy generation as Ghana looks to reduce dependence on hydro-electric power.
Consumers are enduring a three-year power crisis that has seen them enjoy 12 hours of power and 24 hours without it.
Small businesses are said to be collapsing while one death has been recorded linked to power fluctuations.
Ghana’s total current supply is pegged at about 1,650 despite a generation capacity of 2,300megawatts.
