The Vagla Youth Association (VAYA) in the Sawla Tuna Kalba District of the Savannah Region has called on the Paramount Chief of Bole Traditional Area to hold on to his intended exercise to rename some 700 communities in his traditional area to indigenous Gonja names.
The association said the exercise lacks consultations and inputs from the other Gonja tribes (Vagla, Safalba, Choruba and Nomee).
This, they explained, has the capacity to break up the unity, solidarity and peaceful co-existence among the tribes in the Region.
The association, as part of its concerns, also called on the Chief, Sarfo Kutuge Feso (I), to pay attention to the laid down rich traditions and customs that govern the Gonja State.
The Youth group said this in a letter sighted by JoyNews dated Wednesday, July 6, and signed by the Association's President, Emmanuel K. Kungi.
This was after the Paramount Chief on Monday, July 4, held a meeting with the Bole Traditional Council and decided to rename all Settler Communities in the Bole and Sawla -Tuna - Kalba Districts.
According to the Paramount Chief, the exercise is to avoid future land litigation cases in the traditional area.
But the Vagla Youth Association disagrees with the move and urged the traditional Council to try and explain the motives behind the exercise.
