Ghana captain, Andre Ayew, has described the Black Stars' elimination from the 2022 World Cup as 'unfortunate' while confirming the collapse of his daughter after the Uruguay game.
The 32-year-old missed a penalty before La Celeste scored twice in six minutes to claim a 2-0 win on Friday at Al Janoub Stadium to end Ghana's campaign at the group phase.
Andre released a statement via his Instagram account 24 hours after the game, detailing the misfortunes he is going through, including the death of his "godson" before the game against Portugal.
"Our final group match result was not what we were looking forward to in the tournament, but unfortunately, it ended up this way," the statement said.
"Personally, it has been very difficult moments for me in the past few days. I lost my godson the morning before the Portugal game, and my daughter was also rushed to the hospital after the Uruguay [game]. Thanks to the Almighty Allah, she's getting better."
The most capped Ghanaian player in history is convinced hurdles like the Uruguay one will help the Black Stars perform better while concluding with the slogans of the two most glamourous clubs in Ghana, Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, as a motivation.
"These difficult moments will inspire me to come back stronger and better in the future, and so I believe, will the Black Stars," the statement continued.
"In our true Ghanaian spirits, WE WILL NEVER SAY DIE, UNTIL THE BONES ARE ROTTEN, WO KUM APEM A, APEM BEBA.
"Thank you all for your prayers and unwavering support.
"REST IN PEACE, ADAM."
