The standing committee of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church Ghana general assembly has donated food items to inmates at the Kumasi prisons ahead of the yuletide.
Presenting the items, Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt. Col Bliss D. K. Agbeko (Rtd), moderator of the general assembly said "the items were the church’s contribution towards the upkeep of the prison inmate in the festive season".
The foodstuffs donated to the Kumasi prisons were valued at 2,800 cedis.
The moderator of the E.P.C.G general assembly however pleaded with other churches to emulate the gesture.
"The standing committee of the general assembly has realized the need to support people in the prisons but we wish and hope other churches will emulate the gesture," he said.
Authorities at the Kumasi Central Prisons lauded the church for remembering the inmate ahead of the yuletide.
Reverend Superintendent Stella Katso is the Ashanti regional chaplain for the Ghana Prison Service.
"We appreciate the donation to the prisons but we appeal to other institutions and churches to visit the inmates and the prison during the season
They'll be happy to know people think about them this yuletide," she said.
