Ghana is gradually positioning itself as an ideal place for filming on the African continent. In the last year, the country seems to have been a new discovery for filmmakers around the globe.
The newest addition to the list of recent renowned movies that will be set in Ghana is the ‘Girls Trip 2.’
Girls Trip 2 is an American comedy film starring Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Tiffany Haddish, and Jada Pinkett Smith. The movie, which was first released in 2017, became the first comedy to hit $140 million in the year.

In an interview on the variety show presented by Sundance, Tracy Oliver, who is the writer, producer, and director of the movie, disclosed that the entire cast of "Girls Trip 2’ will be in Ghana.
Though the actual time for the shoot was not disclosed, she indicated, “While the film’s producer, Will Packer, might kill me, we’re looking to set it in Ghana.”
This is great news for the Ghana film industry, considering that the budget for ‘Girls Trip 1’ was around $20 million. The National Film Authority (NFA) has prioritized positioning Ghana as the best and most attractive location for filmmaking on the African continent.
Chief Executive Officer of the National Film Authority, Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante, says that as a result, the NFA initiated the "Shoot in Ghana Campaign," which has so far shown a lot of promise in this regard.
She says the campaign emphasizes the importance of selecting Ghana as a film destination in Africa.
In 2022, about 51 international film productions received permits from the National Film Authority to film in Ghana.
Juliet Asantewaa Asante explained that, “Obviously, these productions cannot bring the full complement of their production crew to Ghana. This means job creation for filmmakers in Ghana and also a boost in the economy of Ghana.”
