The Diaspora Girls Senior High School on February 2 launched their 20th Anniversary Celebrations at the School's premises at Obodan in the Akuapim South municipality.
The 20th anniversary launch was chaired by Nana Jonas Yirenkyi II, Osiahene and acting chief of Obodan.
Mrs. Ama Thompson, the headmistress of the School in her speech said, ‘Twenty years ago, some illustrious daughters of our motherland, Ghana had a vision. They had a vision to establish a training center and for that matter a school for young girls. Their vision became a reality and today we are counting ourselves blessed to be beneficiaries of this dream’.
Mrs. Thompson acknowledged the tireless efforts of the Forum for African Women Educationalist (FAWE) Ghana and the late Hon. Vida Amaadi Yeboah who was the coordinator of FAWE Ghana at the time.

She also acknowledged other personalities, through whose efforts the school is where it is today.
They include the chiefs and people of Obodan, especially Obaapanyin Abena Dede, Obaapanyin Akua Agyare and Opanyin Asamoah, the current Chairperson of FAWE Ghana, Prof. Esi Sutherland-Addy, the current Vice Chairperson of FAWE Ghana Mrs. Ewura-AbenaAhowi, Dr. Katherine Namuddu, Mrs. Ernestina Naana Hagan, Dr. Rosina Acheampong, Mrs. Theodora Daaku, the late Mrs. Camilla Haldone-Lutterodt, Ms. Juliana Osei, Nana Aboah Oforiwaa (Amankrado Hemmea) the Felder family and friends of New Jersey.

She added that although the school has chalked some successes including a total of four full scholarship award from Ashesi University, with the latest being 2 students who completed in 2021, the first batch of the Science programme recording 100% pass in all core and three electives etc., they continue to face some challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, insufficient and unreliable water supply system, lack of alternative power supply and poor condition of School Bus.
Mrs. Ama Thompson said the theme for 20th anniversary celebrations is, “sustaining 20 years of quality girl child education through partnership, prospect and challenges’’.
She added that there will be a week-long celebration from 1st May to 7th May, 2023 and entreated old students, parents, Obodan community and well-meaning Ghanaians to come on board to make this twentieth anniversary celebration a success.
