A not-for-profit organisation, Pencils of Promise has commissioned its 197th classroom block since it started operating in the Volta, Oti and Eastern Regions, 10 years ago.
This was made possible through Floki, an international organisation.
The three-unit block would accommodate the kindergarten department of the Dodo-Dompa Basic School in the Kadjebi District of the Volta Region.
This will curtail the challenge of lack of enough classrooms, which compelled authorities to host some classes under mud and thatch structure.
The Ghana Country Director of Pencils of Promise, Freeman Gobah, explained his outfit is determined to ensure that every child in their operational jurisdiction has equal access to quality education under befitting structures.
He said this initiative is geared towards changing the world by educating the masses to make informed decisions and contribute to the progress of their societies.
“Our core mandate is to provide school infrastructure and sanitation facilities for schools that do not have the structures”, he said.

Mr. Gobah indicated that Pencils of Promise complement the provision of structures by providing capacity-building programs for teachers to get abreast with modern methods of teaching.
The teachers are guided through interactive methods of teaching, new curriculum and classroom management.
“We also provide teaching and learning materials because most of the schools in these rural communities do not have these materials” he added.
He stressed that his outfit would continue to pay visits to the beneficiary schools to ensure the structures and items provided are put to good use and managed well.

The Member of Parliament for Kadjebi Akan, Ing Yaw Gomado, said he decided to support Pencils of Promise with 20% of the building cost learning of the infrastructure deficit of the school.
“I made available 20% of the cost together with labour from the community to provide this 3-unit classroom block for my community basic school. This is where I come from and grew up”, he said.
He said the initiative forms part of his objective to improve the standard of education in the constituency, coupled with the provision of other educational needs.
The Headmaster of Dodo Dompa DA Primary School, Agbesi Tsrema, expressed appreciation to Pencils of Promise and the MP for the benevolent act
He said the structure would lead to an increase in enrollment, improve attendance and enhance academic activities.
