A non-governmental organisation, Pencils of Promise, and Fidelity Bank Ghana Limited have jointly financed a project to lessen infrastructure challenges of the Kordzeto MA Basic School in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta Region.
The organisation financed the construction of a 3-unit classroom block, and ancillary facilities and converted a dilapidated 3-unit pavilion into a classroom block to provide a conducive environment for academic activities.
The Fodome Kordzeto MA Basic School, comprising Kindergarten and Primary School was established in 1973.
It's infrastructure deficit compelled the school authorities to introduce a cluster system.
The authorities lamented how this development coupled with inadequate teachers, teaching, and learning materials was affecting academic activities.
The situation prompted the non-governmental organisation, Pencils of Promise and Fidelity Bank to come to the aid of the school.

The organisations constructed a 3-unit classroom Block, converted a pavilion into a 3-unit classroom block, and furnished it with 60 dual desks, teachers' tables, and chairs in all the classrooms.
They also renovated a 2-unit kindergarten block, and the sanitary facility, and constructed a four-unit urinal for the school. A mechanised borehole and two water reservoirs were provided to serve the school and the community.
The Country Director of Pencils of Promise, Freeman Gobah emphasised his outfit’s contribution to producing well-shaped future leaders.
He lauded the partnership between his outfit and Fidelity Bank and “looking forward to future collaborations” to enhance infrastructure in the education sector.
He said that the school would also benefit from other educational programmes of Pencils of Promise, which would include training teachers and distribution of electronic readers.
He disclosed that Pencils of Promise has constructed 600 classroom blocks across the globe within the past 15 years and 199 classroom blocks in Ghana, in its 11 years of operations.
He further indicated that 2,500 teachers have benefited from the NGO's capacity-building programmes, which has affected over 53,000 pupils in the Volta, Oti, and Eastern Regions.
The South East Sector Sales and Services Manager of Fidelity Bank, Emmanuel Arkoful said the Fodome-Kordzeto MA Primary School was selected with 14 others as beneficiaries of his outfit’s Orange Impact initiative in Education.
He said the initiative stems from Fidelity Bank’s vision of committing to contribute to the development of the country by providing the necessary resources to enhance the quality of education in the country.
“As a bank that is uniquely and proudly Ghanaian, we firmly believe that Ghana would be a better place if everyone had the opportunity and support to succeed. It is therefore our purpose to empower individuals and communities, and education stands at the core of our belief”, he said.
The Volta Regional Director, Francis Agbemadi stressed that provision of the infrastructure provided would not only benefit the pupils but would play a significant role in the development of the immediate community and the country at large.
The Headmistress of the Fodome Kordzeto MA Basic School, Leticia Doe acknowledged the efforts of the organisations to resolve her biggest challenge in the school, which had been the infrastructure deficit.
She, however, appealed for a similar project for the JHS department which currently houses all 3 classes in a chapel, a development she said badly affects academic activities.
