Ghanaian musician Black Sherif has disclosed what he says kept him going during the 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) which was held on Saturday, May 6.
Since the announcement and nomination of the 2023 VGMA, the rapper had his sights set on the Album of the Year category with ‘The Villain I Never Was’ album.
But he eventually lost it to King Promise’s ‘5 Star’ album.
There have been claims that Black Sherif deserved the Album of the Year award more than King Promise.
In regard to that, a member of the VGMA board, Nii Ayite Hammond has since responded to the claims and explained why King Promise deserved the award.
In an interview on HitzFM DayBreakHitz with Andy Dosty on Thursday, Black Sherif disclosed that he was always happy when his name came up as a nominee in the category he was nominated.
He added that the cheering up by the crowds in the auditorium motivated him to persist even if he lost the category.
“You see, if they mention the category and they mention the nominees, even the Blacko I hear in the auditorium is enough to keep me going if I don’t win.
“Because there are believers in my creations and it’s very inspiring to see, coming from nobody knowing what I do, to nationwide believing in whatever I create. So that’s enough to keep me going if I don't win”, he said.
The rapper further stated that he would have been disappointed if did not win the Artiste of the Year category.
He explained that even though everybody was expecting to win the said category - which he won, they would eventually move on after the disappointment.
“I would have been disappointed in the auditorium if I didn’t win the Artiste of the Year. The feeling, the intensity, the suspense and everything.
“Everybody was expecting their names to be mentioned but if they don’t mention, that is the hormones that will rise as disappointment.
“But they will calm down gradually and go home and continue life the next day.
