Wesley Girls’ High School shrugged off competition from SIMMS SHS and Nkwatia Presby SHS to secure a spot in the One-Eighth Stage of the 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), while also picking up three cash prizes along the way.
After being relegated to the preliminary stage following a shock defeat to Abetifi Presby SHS that cost them their seeding, Wesley Girls' returned determined to prove a point.
They made that clear from the opening round, taking an early lead with 13 points, ahead of SIMMS’ 10 points and Nkwatia Presby’s 6 points.

The lead grew in the second round as Wesley Girls' moved to 21 points, while SIMMS SHS and Nkwatia Presby managed 11 points and 13 points respectively.
Round Three proved to be a more decisive round as Wesley Girls' stretched their advantage to 31 points, with SIMMS SHS following with 15 points and Nkwatia Presby on 13 points before adding another reward to their growing haul.
A perfect 10 out of 10 in the third round earned the Wesley Girls' the Prudential Life NSMQ Star cash prize of GH¢2,000.

By the end of the fourth round, Wesley Girls' had surged to 47 points, leaving SIMMS SHS and Nkwatia Presby on 22 points and 26 points respectively. Another perfect performance brought another reward, with Wesley Girls' claiming the GH¢500 JuPay Clean Sheet prize.
Wesley Girls' wrapped up the contest on 59 points, comfortably ahead of Nkwatia Presby’s 26 points and SIMMS’ 22 points. Their final flourish came with the GOIL Riddle Bonanza, after they answered all four riddles correctly to pocket another GH¢1,200.
Three cash prizes and, more importantly, a ticket to the One-Eighth stage, a remarkable response from a school forced to fight its way back from the preliminaries.
Now, Wesley Girls' are setting their sights even higher, vowing to take down the next set of contenders as they chase the ultimate prize.
