The German government has launched an initiative to support tech-related and innovative startups here in Ghana.
The StArfrica, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action is an initiative that will help build entrepreneurs in the area for the German market.
According to the German Ambassador, Daniel Krull, he believes the initiative has the potential to improve the economic exchange between the two countries.
“In German industry today, there is a need for 400,000 qualified workers every year. I am saying that there are many opportunities, good chances for those who would like to add to their career some international exposure”, he said.
He assured that his government is fully ready to aid in training the African youth to take advantage of global opportunities.
The project was extended to Ghana after its successful pilot in Rwanda.
The partnership with the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), will provide aspiring local entrepreneurs with the modern innovative idea to compete globally.
The program being implemented by the University of Koblenz with some local partners will take up two cohorts of entrepreneurs in a year, and each will spend ten months in the incubation.
“The plan for the project is to prove that within one year we are able to apply for entrepreneurship scholarships for at least three entrepreneurship teams who have global ideas,” Prof. Harald Von Koflesch, a German Economist explained.
In the meantime, the Education Ministry has reassured its readiness to partner with the project in educating start-ups.
