Some Ghanaians on social media are unenthused by Majority Leader in Parliament's reaction over some concerns regarding a new tax pending implementation.
The matter had to do with the incoming 10% withholding tax on sports betting and lottery winnings by the Ghana Revenue Authority.
While siding with the policy on Accra-based Angel FM, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu said betting does not encourage hard work.
He said he believes in hard work and individuals earning what they are due through their sweat.
“I don’t believe in betting. I don’t believe in luck. I believe in hard work and earning what is due an individual through their sweat.”
“As an individual, I don’t engage in the lottery because I don’t believe in that. I believe in luck. Work hard so God will bless it,” he said.
This comment has caused an uproar on social media and users have criticized the politician for implying that sports betting is for lazy people.
A section of social media users indicated that the government should create jobs to reduce the interest of the youth in making money through betting.
