Former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu, says he is shocked that a secret recording he did was leaked to the media.
According to him, he handed the recording of the plot to remove the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akufo-Dampare, from his position to President Akufo-Addo.
The paramount chief said he was shocked that the recording was out there because he did not share it with anyone.
"By the time I sent the tape to the President, the recording had already been leaked," he disclosed.
Mr Naabu said he has spoken to the President since the tape went viral but did not give further details about what they spoke about.
He told a seven-member parliamentary committee probing the issue on Monday, August, 29 that his motive for recording the contentious leaked tape was for him to play it to President Akufo-Addo for him to decide.
According to him, he has questioned one of the police officers [Commander Asare] after the leak who hung the phone on him.
"He sent a message through my son, that he will deal with me...you are right to say he was threatening me," Mr Naabu said.
He said he would ordinarily record his conversations with other persons but had to record this one, so he does not lie to the President.
According to him, he did not want his relationship with the President not to be jeopardised.
He added that he requested someone to do the recording for him since he did not have the knowledge to do it.
“I didn’t do it myself, but I called someone to come and do it for me,” he added.
