The Technical Advisor to the Vice President, Dr Tiah Abdul-Kabiru Mahama has expressed confidence in his boss to win the New Patriotic Party (NPP)'s flagbearer elections scheduled for Saturday, November 4.
A confident Dr Mahama said history is on the side of the Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Speaking on JoyNews' AM Show on Tuesday, August 29, never in the party's history has a candidate won the Super Delegates Conference and lost the main elections.
According to him, the feat achieved by Dr Bawumia is commendable, and it will be difficult for any candidate to replicate same in future elections.
"There are two reasons why we should be confident in the victory of the final outcome of the elections come November 4.
"The first one is that never in the history of this party has a candidate led either in the Special Delegates Conference and doesn’t make it to the final."
'Secondly, no presidential candidate in his first attempt at the presidency has garnered more votes than Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as Vice President, even though some of these persons were leading members of the NPP. No person has achieved this feat," he told host, Blessed Sogah.
Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, came first in the New Patriotic Party’s Super Delegates Congress.
The Super Delegates Congress was organised to elect five presidential aspirants to contest the party’s primaries in November this year.
This was after 10 candidates picked up forms to contest the NPP’s presidential primaries, which is scheduled for November 4.
After the collation of 16 out of the 17 polling centres across the country, the Vice President has come out on top with 67.10% of the total votes cast, followed by Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong who accrued 14.15% of the total votes cast.
Former Trades Minister, Alan Kyerematen came third with 10.85% of the total votes cast, and former Agric Minister, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto came fourth with 4.01%.
There is however a tie as Francis Addai Nimoh and former Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko, both got 1.06 per cent of the total votes cast.
