St James Seminary SHS, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Girls SHS and St Thomas Aquinas, on Thursday, battled it out for a slot in the quarter-finals of the 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) contest.
The schools, before the contest, were ready to slay their opponents but by round four, St Thomas Aquinas seemingly had a tough time catching up leaving the contest between St James Sem and Mt. Carmel.
The contest began with St James Sem leading in round one with 20 points with Mt Carmel following closely with 16. But the contest seemed challenging for St Thomas Aquinas who ended up with 12 points.

The two schools ended the contest with 44 points each - a tiebreaker was used to decide who would survive the one-eighth contest.
After failing to answer two new riddles, St James Sem SHS picked up the next riddle and won the quarter-final slot. St. Thomas Aquinas SHS scored 31 points.
St James Sem SHS for the second year running becomes a seeded school. They will battle Pope John Sem. & SHS and Aburi Presby SHTS in the quarter-final.
