Students of International Community School in Ogbodzo, Accra, have come together to support school children and residents affected by the recent flood incident after the Akosombo Dam spillage exercise.
The calamity has left numerous families in the impacted areas displaced and struggling to cope. Responding to this crisis, the students, with support from their parents and school management, have initiated various projects to make a positive impact on the three Tongu districts.
Guided by their teachers and staff, the students have organized a range of initiatives, including collecting and distributing essential supplies and hosting fundraising events. Their dedication and initiative in addressing the urgent needs of the affected communities showcase their commitment to making a difference in the wake of the disaster.

A prominent initiative led by the students involves the collection and distribution of crucial supplies such as food, water, clothing, and hygiene products. Through coordinated efforts, the students have amassed a significant quantity of essential items, directly reaching families and individuals impacted by the flood.
Konadu Yeboah, the school's Vice Principal, expressed immense pride in the students' remarkable dedication and proactive response to the crisis. He highlighted the importance of nurturing a culture of empathy and community engagement within the school.
Yeboah stated, "It's truly inspiring to witness our students demonstrating such empathy and leadership in reaching out to support their fellow community members during this challenging time. Their passion for making a positive impact exemplifies the values we strive to instill in our students, and we are incredibly proud of their compassion and initiative."
Beyond immediate relief efforts, Joangellen Archibald, the school's PRO, shared that the students have also extended emotional and educational support to school children affected by the flood. Acknowledging the disruption caused to their education and emotional well-being, the students have offered tutoring, mentoring, and emotional support to their peers affected by the disaster.
During interactions with school children and students in the affected area, Head Girl Deborah Minta-Jacobs encouraged them to maintain hope amid the disaster and stay focused on learning. She emphasized the importance of studying hard despite the difficulties to reach the highest academic ladder.
Residents and community leaders have commended the students for their unwavering commitment to serving others and embodying the spirit of unity and compassion in the face of adversity.
As the recovery and rebuilding process continues, the students of International Community School remain resolute in their commitment to supporting flood-affected communities and addressing the ongoing needs of those impacted by the flood.
