The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released provisional results of 448,674 candidates who sat for the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Out of the number, the results of some subjects of candidates from 235 schools have been withheld for using Artificial Intelligence to generate answers.
Additionally, 3,647 subject results of candidates have been cancelled for bringing foreign materials into examination centres, and 839 candidates had their entire results also cancelled for possessing of mobile phone in the examination hall.
This was contained in a press release signed by the head of public relations of WAEC, John K. Kapi on December 18, 2023.

The Examination Council also added that the results of 4,280 candidates’ subjects and the entire results of 1,005 have been withheld for various suspected offences.
Portions of the release said results are under investigation and will either be released or cancelled, depending on the outcome.Â
Meanwhile, in English Laguage 325,280 students obtained grades A1 to C6, 32,408 with D7, 21,153 students with E8 ; and 23,509 others with F9
In Mathematics 276,272 people obtained grades A1 to C6, with 36,373 with D7, 33,262 with E8 and 39,517 with grades F9.
With Integrated Science some 296,466 candidates obtained A1- C6, with 38,938 candidates with grade D7, 26,566 students with grade E8 and 25,029 learners with grade F9.
Finally, in Social Studies, 340,867 students obtained grades A1 - C6, 29,470 candidates with D7, 19,616 individuals earned E8 and 26,186 candidates with F9.
