Andre Onana has decided to miss Cameroon's first game at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to feature in Manchester United's game against Tottenham Hotspur.
An agreement had been reached between the Premier League and Cameroon's FA to allow the goalkeeper to play the game against Tottenham before jetting off to Ivory Coast for the country's opening game.
However, the former Inter Milan man has opted to sit out of the Indomitable Lions' first game against Guinea on January 15, 24 hours after United play Tottenham.
Onana was hopeful of featuring in both games despite the quick turnaround. However, iNews reports he is likely to miss the first fixture after talks between United and the Cameroon FA.
The feeling is that Onana will not arrive in Ivory Coast with enough time to spare and may not be available for selection as a result.
Cameroon face Senegal in their second game before engaging Gambia in their final group game at the AFCON.
Should they suffer an early exit in Ivory Coast, Onana could be available for United's next game on January 27 which will mean he would have missed no games for the Red Devils.
The United goalkeeper kept a clean sheet as Erik ten Hag's side eased past League One side Wigan Athletic in the third round of the FA Cup on Monday as they claimed a 2-0 win.
