Ghana needs a comprehensive policy for a 24-hour economy, Labour expert, Austin Gamey has said.
He, has, therefore, called for a detailed explanation on how the 24-hour economy would be implemented, urging both the present government and future governments to highlight how they would implement the policy and also commit themselves to it.
Mr Gamey further indicated that the initiative would bring more employment opportunities in the country, where people would have the chance to work for different organisations at different times, hence enabling them to improve their finances.
He said Ghana will be able to come out of its economic challenges if the government implements the 24-hour economy initiative.
For him, "in the absence of a 24-hour economy, this country will not grow."
In a radio interview monitored by Graphic Online on Accra-based Citi FM on Monday [February 19, 2024], Mr Gamey noted that the 24-hour economy initiative holds great potential to turn the economic fortunes of the country around positively.
"To me, the 24-hour economy is the solution," he said, adding that the policy would ensure equity and social justice.
Former President John Dramani Mahama, who is contesting the 2024 presidential election on the ticket of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said one of his major policies will focus on the implementation of a 24-hour economy when elected as president.
The policy has since gained popularity in the political space in Ghana after Mr Mahama's pronouncement.
