Designated Information Minister Fatimatu Abubakar has urged for the establishment of an environment that nurtures the success of women across the nation.
During her scrutiny by Parliament's Appointment Committee on Friday, she voiced concerns about the lingering intimidation faced by many women in public spaces due to victimisation.
Nevertheless, Abubakar underscored the pivotal role of women in every sector, highlighting their substantial contributions and advocating for the provision of ample opportunities for their advancement.
"As a gender advocate, especially on this International Women’s Day, I emphasize the necessity for the amplification of feminine voices.
"The diverse examples, dynamics, and perspectives that women bring to the table are invaluable.
"It's disheartening to witness numerous women, despite being bright, knowledgeable, and opinionated, feeling hesitant to occupy spaces," she remarked.
In the meantime, Ghana, like the rest of the world, commemorates this year's International Women’s Day (IWD) under the theme 'Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress.'
Observed annually on March 8th, the day serves as a tribute to women's contributions in every facet of human existence.
The campaign theme for IWD 2024 aims to inspire others to recognize and appreciate women's inclusion, thus forging a better world.
This day is marked by global activism and celebration, involving all those dedicated to advancing women’s equality.
It serves as an occasion to celebrate women’s accomplishments, raise awareness about discrimination, and take concrete actions to promote gender parity.
